I’ve had a fascination with taking photographs ever since my dad gave me my first film camera as a child. Although, back then it was more about snapping photos of my friends, rushing off to the store to have the roll of film developed and waiting for what seemed like an eternity until it was time to pick them up. It was such a thrill. (I can’t say that I am any less of a nerd today!)
For me, photography took on new importance after my daughter was born and I become intent on capturing her at every stage. When she was just a few months old, my husband surprised me with my first DSLR camera and some very intimidating books about photography. Once I summoned the courage to tackle the camera manual and read the books, I was hooked! I spent every spare moment learning everything I could and practicing whenever I had the chance.
There are many reasons why I love photography as an art form. A photograph has the ability to tell such a powerful story and can capture emotion, interaction and relationships with so much authenticity. A photograph can bring out the extraordinary in the ordinary.
